Visual Arts and the Law – Third Party Event

On May 3, 2013, Georgia Lawyers for the Arts, Inc., in conjunction with Lisa F. Moore, Esq. of The Moore Firm, LLC, The Copyright Society of the USA and the High Museum of Art will be holding a full day of programming on critically important legal issues for museums, galleries and arts administrators. Specifically, this CLE will address cutting edge issues facing artists and art institutions in areas such as copyright law and fair use, trademark law, recent developments involving lost or stolen art, legal issues concerning provenance, authenticity and authentication boards, litigation involving fakes and frauds, as well as tax, employment and contract considerations for museums and galleries. Whether you are an arts administrator, a gallery or a museum director or a visual artist, this CLE will cover numerous topics that affect you in your daily work life such as museum and board of director liability when accessioning and deaccessioning works of art.

Art is a dynamic, expansive area of the law that covers many substantive areas. However, very few attorneys practice art law on a day-to-day basis. This program will feature some of the best and most talented art law and intellectual property attorneys in the country and will provide a rare opportunity to benefit directly from their knowledge and extensive experience. Legal representation can be expensive and for the price of approximately half-an-hour of legal services you will receive an entire day of information on a wide array of significant legal issues to help you better protect yourself and/or your organization. The cost of attendance is $195 for attorneys, $150 for museums, galleries, and arts administrators, and $50 for artists. All proceeds go to support Georgia Lawyers for the Arts, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides pro bono legal and educational services to low income artists and non-profit arts organizations across the State of Georgia. As an added incentive, after the program (to be held in Hill Auditorium at the High Museum of Art) concludes, all attendees will be welcome to join us for a cocktail reception and private access to the current world-class exhibit “Frieda & Diego.” We hope you will reach out to us with any questions  at the phone numbers and/or emails below. The Agenda and Registration Form are attached. Don’t miss out on this one time opportunity.
